Prevail was created by Dustin Wunderlich after he was diagnosed with A.M.L. on December 9, 2008, for the purpose of helping others PREVAIL when faced with a similar journey. Dustin’s vision and hope is to help others like himself, affected with blood disease, to ease their emotional and financial stresses so they are able to take their positive strengths toward healing themselves. Coupled with this, PREVAIL’S hope is to educate and bring awareness for the great need for donations of blood and platelets. PREVAIL is committed to facilitate more bone marrow drives to register more bone marrow donors to the national registry.

Prevail needs college students to help plan Prevail’s 2022 Bone Marrow Registry drive campaign. Make a difference at your college or university by organizing a drive at your school. Prevail will help you organize the event from the planning stage to setup on drive day. If you are involved with a sorority or fraternity, sports team, science major, or just someone who is a leader, you have the tools to make a difference and Prevail has the experience and know how to set your school apart from the rest. Take the first step and contact Prevail to find out more about hosting a Bone Marrow Registry Drive at your school.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
My name is Tara Notrica. My daughter, Samantha, and I are the subjects of a documentary.
In July 2015, I received an autologous stem cell transplant for my rare hematological/ immunological disease. In June 2018, I received an allogeneic bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor from “Be The Match” for the same rare disease. Both transplants were done under the direction of Dr. Sergio Giralt at MSKCC in NYC. Currently, I continue to recuperate.
Matthew White, from 4th Coast Productions of Rochester, NY has been filming my story to make a documentary called “Second Chance” (Copyright 2020) and completed the film. We have been entering the film into multiple festivals. The film has been selected/received awards in a few festivals so far (see Laurels below). Other selected festivals include The Impact Docs Awards, Logcinema Music Film Festival, Malta Film Festival, Prospector Film Festival and Garden State Film Festival. Award categories include original song, original soundtrack, Women in Film, Disability Issue, Performative Documentary & Best Director.
The film is intended to raise awareness about rare diseases, educate about bone marrow transplants, encourage people to become bone marrow donors, raise awareness about NYS Bill S1377-2021-2022(Senator Brooks)and show how music can have healing powers. The story is told using the incorporation of original songs which were co-written and recorded by my 16 year old daughter, and it shows how she overcame obstacles through the power of music. The film includes interviews by Dr. Sergio Giralt, NYS Senator John Brooks(District 8), Robbie Rosen from American Idol, Terrance Tompkins(Associate Professor, Music Business, Hofstra University) and Michael Gatto(Associate Adjunct Professor, Health Care & Public Administration, LIU Post). This is a story about hope, love, inspiration, perseverance, strength, courage, to name a few, in a time of uncertainty and needs to be shared.
